Essay on Argentina

Essay on Argentina

Good afternoon/morning everyone. Today I will be talking to you about my adopted country, Argentina. Argentina is located in the southern hemisphere in the continent of South America. The coordinates are between 22 s and 52 s and between 74 w and 55 w. Argentina is the second largest country in south america, Brazil being the largest. Its bordering countries are Bolivia and Brazil to its north, Chile which is west of Argentina and to the east is Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil once again. The water boundary surrounding the country is the Atlantic Ocean.

Argentina has provinces just like Canada does , the provinces are, Rio Negro, Buenos Aires, Santa Cruz, Chubut, La Pampa, Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Cordoba, San Juan, La Rioja, Santiago del estero, Catamara, Jujuy, Formosa, Corrientes, Santa fe, Entre rios and last but not least Salta. As you can see Argentina has many provinces but the majority of the people live in the northeastern parts of the country. One of the most well known places in Argentina is Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires is also the capital of Argentina and the main city of Buenos Aires the province. Buenos Aires like any another city has a lot of tourist sites. There are still parts that are poor within city but Buenos Aires is probably the wealthiest city in Argentina. It has a very large university called Cludad and a well-known airport called the international airport of ministro pastarini.

South America is surrounded by one major tectonic plate located right next to Chile it is called the South American plate. Even though it is not near Argentina, when there are earth quakes it usually affects Argentina. You have probably all heard of the mountain chain called the Andes right. In the northwest of Argentina there is a continuation of the Andes. With mountains that reach over 20,000 feet high. Even though Argentina is a hot country in the Andes there is snow on the mountains, sometimes there’s even enough to go skiing. The Andes are considered the mountainous area of the country . In the upland areas of the country you are most likely to find the large rain forests in a place called the grand Chaco. It is probably the most agricultural based place throughout the country and many tropical fruits and medicines are found there. Another huge landform, probably the biggest landform throughout Argentina are the plains also known as the pampas. The pampas is like your typical desert. Its hot dry, and without much vegetation for the most part. The majority of the people live in the pampas. One of Argentina’s landforms that are very well known, are the falkland islands which were the islands which were fought on during a terrible war in the early 1990’s, with Argentina fighting against Britain.

Temperate climatic conditions exist throughout most of Argentina. Argentina has many seasonal changes. Because it is in the southern hemisphere everything is the opposite from what we’re used to in terms of time and seasons. So that when it is summer for us it is winter for them , even though there is no snow in Argentina (except in the southern tip and on the Andes mountains) it still gets pretty cold reaching temperatures of about maybe 8 degrees centigrate. About 2/3 of Argentina does not get enough rain to grow crops that’s when we begin the talk about the rainforest where precipitation can go up to 37 feet. The pampas has two climatic zones, the coastal humid pampa and the dry humid pampas. Surprisingly the coastal humid area of the pampas, which is only a very small section of this landform, gets allot of rain, which allows them to grow lots of grain and livestock, feeds. The dry pampas is what takes up much of the country and that particular landform it is dry and very hot like most deserts we are used to.

The two main agricultural parts of Argentina are the west of the pampas and the northeastern tropical forests. The pampas and the tropical forests are very different. The pampas grow mostly grain, corn and it is where most of the farming takes place. The northeastern tropical rainforests provide all the tropical fruits ,organic materials that are used in many medicines and sugar cane. A very historic point in the north eastern tropical forest of Argentina is a place called the Iguaza Falls . It is a huge area with about 7 waterfalls all coming together as one. It is said to be one of the most historic points in South America.

Argentina has a population of about 37,000,000 people or to be exact 37,384,816 people. 87 % of those people live in urban areas of the country and only a mere 13% live in rural. Patagonia is one big tourist sites where many people live as well. Most of the people in Argentina are very poor. Argentina itself is a third world country. The life expectancy of Argentina 75.26 yrs averaged out between females and males of the country. The main religion among the Argentineans is Catholicism and their main language is Spanish. The Argentinean flag is a blue and white striped flag with a sun as the emblem of the country in the middle of it.

In Argentina the money is called pesos. 1,000 pesos are equal to only one American dollar. One of the main cultural figures are called gauchos. Gauchos means a South American cowboy. The gauchos were started in the 1800’s when a game called pato was played. In this game you were to hold a duck in a bag and race with tone other man on a horse. The point of the game was to be the first one to get to the finish line with the duck in his hand. Argentinean dancing is also a huge part of Argentinean culture. The tango (known worldwide) is one of the main dances. The dances are very well done and have a lot of affection and romance.

The food of Argentina is also a very big part of every family’s heritage throughout Argentina. The main food that is eaten there is beef. Argentina is known worldwide for its fabulous meat. So most of the meals consist of barbequed meat and fruits are tropical and very different from what we are used to in America…
