Research Paper on Gandhi

Research Paper on Gandhi

Gandhi has taught the world around him very much. His devotion to peace and tranquility were above all, next to the independence of India. He was a Hindu, a Muslim, a Christian, a Jew, and a Buddhist all at once. He was a man of intelligence and he never acknowledged that.

One can learn a lot from Gandhi. I learned that “an eye for an eye would make the entire world blind.” This statement was repeatedly said during the movie. It is not about eyes and what not, but about people and their decisions. If people keep on killing each other, it would make others want to revenge, which would make them kill again, which would make the other side want to revenge, and it will go on continuously in a never-ending cycle, and instead of the entire world being blind, the entire world will be dead.

I learned that Gandhi had much pride for the “crown jewel colony”, India. He would wear almost close to nothing, even when meeting with people as high as the Queen of England. He treated all people equally, including the untouchables and the Muslims. One of his goals was to give human rights to the untouchables. Unfortunately, he never achieved that goal. Also, Gandhi was against violence. He would fast for days and days if the violence would not stop. This means that Gandhi was willing to give up his own life to save the lives of others. This is a truly great man.

I also learned that India had a very large Muslim minority at the time of its independence. However, leader of Muslim society, Mr. Jinnah, wanted a part of India that was only for Muslims, known as Pakistan. Most Hindus were against the idea of giving up a mass of land that they just won to the Muslims. Gandhi wasn’t one of these people. He accepted the idea serenely and by the end of the Muslim migration out of India there were only about 12% of Muslims remaining.

Many people loved Gandhi, including the majority of Indians. I learned that Gandhi was a hero in the eyes of many. I learned that when he told the father, ( the one who murdered a child because his boy was murdered) to adopt a son, about the height of his dead one, and to raise him, as a Muslim, took him a lot of courage. The man was shocked at this advice, but I truly believe he followed it, because this suggestion was given by Gandhi, and whatever Gandhi says shall be done, because Gandhi knows best.

It was sad to see Gandhi die, and if all political and religious leaders of today have at least a small piece of “Gandhi” in them, then the world will be perfect and the most safest haven. There would have never been a war with Iraq and September 11, 2001 wouldn’t mean a thing to us, because it would’ve been an ordinary day like September 10 or September 12.
